I hope you heard seen and heard about the present situation of Nepal. The maoist forcefully shutdown Nepal since yesterday…Unless and until the prime minister resign himself from his post the indefinate strike will go on throughout Nepal. This is a limit. But the PM says he will not accept at any cost and is not scared of the threat from the maoist. The different parties are having meeting since May 1st and couldn’t get a solid solution.
I hope you had seen in the international news BBC and CNN and also from your local papers about our present issue. It has been said that 2011 is the tourism year for Nepal and is expecting a lot of tourist but now looking the present situation I donot expect that thing. Most of the maoist are very very young boys and girls who are schooling going students in the village. I think they are forcefully brought in kathmandu for the protest. The maoist taking their red flag and saying anti government slogans around 18different parts of kathmandu. This is affecting a lot for the commoners. Here in Pokhara the schools are closed, no vehicles and in fact everything is closed.
My children were very excited to start their new class but now because of this strike they are feeling bore and affected. Even the class XII couldn’t give their exams on the given time. The maoist mercilessly torn the question papers and threaten not to held any exams till their notice. This is crazy.
If this things keeps on going than there will be more and more strikes in the coming days from the different parties and different caste.
We hope there will be a good solution from the leading parties and the prime minister himself to stop this indefinate strikes which is hampering everyone.

Samenvatting
Bij reizen in en naar Nepal dient u waakzaamheid te betrachten. Vanaf 2 mei 2010 is een nationale staking gaande die grote hinder veroorzaakt, ook voor toeristen.
Nepal maakt een politieke en sociale transitie door die ook in de toekomst gepaard kan gaan met protestacties en wegblokkades, met name in sommige delen van de Terai en de vallei van Kathmandu.
Aangeraden wordt demonstraties en samenscholingen te mijden, de berichtgeving in de lokale media te volgen, goed geïnformeerd te blijven over de situatie ter plaatse en zich te houden aan plaatselijke verordeningen.
Actualiteiten
Vanaf 2 mei 2010 vindt er een algemene staking, voor onbepaalde duur, plaats die is uitgeroepen door de Maoistische partij. Openbaar vervoer, bedrijven en publieke diensten zijn nagenoeg in het gehele land gesloten. In Kathmandu en andere steden zijn grote concentraties demonstranten. Op een aantal incidenten na is de staking tot nu toe vreedzaam verlopen, maar sinds 6 mei 2010 lopen de spanningen op en escalatie van geweld rondom demonstraties en wegblokkades is mogelijk.
Ambulances, politie, leger, mensenrechtenorganisaties, pers en diplomaten hebben vrije doorgang in het hele land; dit geldt in principe ook voor toeristen mits vervoerd in speciale “Tourist Only” bussen (groene kentekenplaat). Internationaal luchtverkeer is normaal, echter het aantal nationale vluchten is afgenomen vanwege gereduceerd aantal reizigers. Vervoer van vliegveld naar hotels en vice versa is mogelijk in speciale bussen. Toeristenvervoer over land is in principe ook mogelijk maar men dient rekening te houden met vertragingen en beperkte mogelijkheden. Trekking is goed mogelijk, maar vervoer van en naar startplaatsen is beperkt.
Hotels zijn open en functioneren normaal; veel restaurants zijn gesloten. Media geven aan dat hoteleigenaren zich zorgen beginnen te maken over aanvoer van levensmiddelen en andere diensten. Tussen 6.00 en 8.00 uur en tussen 18.00 en 22.00 uur zijn kleine winkels open. Men kan zich alleen te voet of fiets verplaatsen.
Het is niet mogelijk aan te geven hoe lang de staking zal aanhouden en of en in welke mate escalatie zou kunnen plaatsvinden. Hoewel de veiligheidssituatie voor buitenlanders en toeristen niet direct in gevaar is, wordt aangeraden goed te overwegen of het onder de huidige omstandigheden mogelijk is specifieke reisplannen binnen Nepal te verwezenlijken.
Aangeraden wordt demonstraties en samenscholingen te mijden, de berichtgeving in de lokale media te volgen, goed geïnformeerd te blijven over de situatie ter plaatse en zich te houden aan plaatselijke verordeningen.

Global Family Pleasure completes the 4th round he annual project of TCVAA Pokhara “Global Family Pleasure’’ in collaboration with its Kathmandu counterpart completed the 4th round last February, ensuring the children to reach school well in time to celebrate the Tibetan New Year with their friends. Some 13 children from TCV Bylakuppe availed the dream holiday opportunity this year and spent about a month in the beautiful country of Nepal. T
Children were escorted to the border by one of the school staff and were headed straight to Kathmandu by the President of TCVAA Kathmandu. After about a fortnight of tour and pilgrimage in and around the capital valley sponsored by members and well wishers of Tibetan Children’s Village Alumni Association, Kathmandu, the children bid a tearful good bye to the Ex TCV brothers as they were dropped at Jampaling Tibetan Settlement that lies nearly an hour from the town of Pokhara.
The children were then taken into different families in the Tibetan camp of Jampaling. The initial boredom felt at the shift from the city life to a rural one changed soon enough as the children discovered a newfound joy in exploring around the village’s natural lure for any nature lover. Be it the sparse jungle stretching for miles with trails that lead to Nepali villages or the pristine sparkling rivulets or the beautiful sight of deep Seti gorge in winter when the river current has subsided, the children explored around the neighbouring villages with new friends they had made in the settlement. The stay at Jampaling with Tibetan families is reportedly the most touching one as the children received a first hand experience of being in a real family environment, something that they haven’t felt for a long, long time. After gaining some idea about the rural life style of Tibetan community in exile for a week, the children headed to Pokhara proper, where they were allotted to live with different families of Ex Tcvians.
Despite being engaged with office responsibilities, the executive members and members left no stones unturned in making the children’s stay in Pokhara eventful. The very next day, the children went for a hike to one of the most beautiful spots in Pokhara, The Peace Pagoda, from where they could feast upon the beauty of the whole Pokhara valley. picnic and soon it was followed with a tour round the small town of Pokhara valley the next day onwards. The sight seeing programme to some of the tourist attraction sites like Bat Cave, Mahendra Cave, Davis Fall, Gupteshwor Cave, etc astounded the youngsters with the bounties of nature while visits to places like Butterfly Museum, International Mountaineering Museum, Pema Tsel Sakya College, and Tushida Meditations Centre were intriguing as well as awe inspiring experience for them. Well-wishers like the SOS organization for Tibetans continued to extend warm hospitality at SOS CV, SOS HGHSS School, and the Vocational Training Centre. While the children mingled with the students of HGS in an interaction programme, the Director of SOS VTC, Mr. D.Wangyal, gave them some soul-searching advice at a simple tea party. At the SOS T CV, as usual, the Project Director Mr. Ngawang Dorjee, more endearingly known as Pala, wished them to have a happy stay in Pokhara after giving some words of wisdom and pocket money to each child. Buddhist centres in Pokhara like Tushita Meditation Centre and Pel Sakya College, Pema Tsel blessed the children with religious teachings and on meditations. Both institutes also showed warmest of hospitalities by providing lunch for the children and the escorts.
After family outings and shopping, finally on 7 Feb, all the ex TCVians gathered at Hotel Annapurna for a lunch get together with the children and the host families as the guests of honour. The sharing from the host families and children was a tearful affair yet another time. Photo session, distribution of mementos to the children and gifts of appreciation for the host families were the highlights of the luncheon. Behind the façade of smiles on everyone’s face lurked the obvious dread of the approaching departure. The dreaded day to leave Pokhara eventually arrived. Our President, Mr. Tashi Tsering, along with a companion, escorted the students back to India. In Mysore, students went for the final tour around the city and then they were reported to school on 12 Feb 2010.

The karmic world has its strange way of making total strangers meet and create an inexplicably profound bond between them, owing to which the parting seems to be more painful than assumed. Such is the state of our mind every year. Yet every time the year comes to a close, we look forward to having another batch of new brothers and sisters. We may undergo the same pain but we do so by rejoicing at the fact that we are making a huge, huge difference to all these youngsters by providing them an extended family and we feel proud at being able to live up to the motto of our alma mater - TCV, ``Others Before Self. `` We salute you TCV; we are truly indebted to you.
